Robert Martin: In His Own Words
See and hear the fascinating story of WWII lead B-17 bombardier Robert Martin as he is shot down over Germany,
captured by the Nazis, and has his life saved by an unimaginable stroke of luck in this compelling new multimedia series courtesy of "Legacies" producer Tom Swope.
  Robert Martin

Examples:
  • Vol. 1 nos. 31-51 of "The Stars and Stripes" the official newspaper of the A.E.F. 1918 (originals).

  • Notebook of Crile patient Lt. Robert Young who, while in a German prison camp, copied dozens of names and addresses of family members of his fellow prisoners. When he secured early release, due to the severity of his wounds, he wrote the families telling them first hand the conditions of capture.

  • Nazi dagger as part of the surrender ceremony at a German  naval hospital in Toulon France. The commander, a German Admiral, surrendered to Sgt. Jesse "Will" Largent of Cleveland, Ohio, because he was the only American GI in the hospital as a result of wounds sustained when he was shot down on his 59th mission in August, 1944.  Sgt. Largent spent several months at Crile General Hospital.  After the war, Will became the editor of the Berea News (Ohio) and subsequently active in Cleveland mayoral and Ohio politics.

  • Original Cleveland newspapers, posters, Life, Saturday Evening Post, and other original magazines that document the totality of WW II, totaling over 300 individual issues.
